What does POE mean?
The technology POE (Power over Ethernet) is a network functionality. The POE allows you to sustain your devices directly with a simple Ethernet wire thanks to the to the data connection.
What are the assets of the POE ?
- The PoE allows to use only one wire that connect your devices to the data. It lowers the cost of new wires to equip the whole structure.
- The PoE technology enables the equipment and/ or the extension of the network and also to lower the cost.
- If you use this technology, it will allow you to install any device wherever you want within your structure, especially where the power is hard to reach. Also it will drastically reduce the numbers of cables used.
Can you use a POE device with an non POE device ?
It is possible to use a POE device with another non POE device thanks to the network. Non POE devices however cannot nurture POE devices or equipments (which means that those non POE device are not designed to nurture other devices with low powered energy, or be nurtured with PSE systems). Non POE devices must have a distinct source of energy.

An adaptable technology
Understanding the structure behind the access control is highly necessary to choose the best one for your needs, and most importantly to make sure that the structure is adapted and adaptable to the infrastructure that is meant to be equipped. That said, there is nothing better than a schematized explanation to help you understand how it works ! Let’s go
The network and the structure of an access control solution are really important. Let’s begin with a simple structure that a random company may offer you. The structure that most of companies use is composed by three interconnected elements. First there are the badge readers which will be used to actually control the entrances and exits of the infrastructure. The second element is the UTL platform which is a computer that centralises the badge readers, thanks to field buses (type RS485, Wiegant…). The last element is obviously the Ethernet connection. In brief, the UTL platform is a link between the badge readers and the Ethernet.
ODALID develops software to read and write in Calypso travel cards, the information is written according to standard intercode.
This software is compatible with all our couplers.
Néamoins it is necessary to have a SAM to write in the cards
This software allows

- view and edit transport contracts;
- and view logs;
We have worked on Dijon tramway project, equipping the controllers of read / write devices to monitor passenger travel tickets.
